UCCS Commitments

Social, economic, and ecological values have been integrated into the policies, programs, and practices of UCCS. Strategic planning helps UCCS achieve this integration as well as the goal of institutionalizing and creating a culture of sustainability on campus.

Current Plans:

UCCS Sustainability Strategic Plan 2022 - 2030
Building on the achievement of many of the goals in 2020 UCCS Sustainability Strategic Plan, faculty, staff, and students, collaborated to develop sustainability strategies for the next 8 years. UCCS Sustainability Strategic Plan 2007
On August 31, 2006, Chancellor Shockley-Zalabak initiated the Sustainability Strategic Plan. The Chancellor charged a diverse group of more than 40 faculty, staff, and students with creating a five-year action plan for sustainability at UCCS by March 1, 2007. This final report was incorporated in the overall strategic plan for UCCS and approved by the CU Board of Regents.

UCCS Strategic Plan 2007-2012
For the first time UCCS specifically targeted sustainability as one of its 15 overall strategic goals for the University. The plan focuses on being a sustainability leader in the Pikes Peak region, stewardship of the natural environment, a commitment to high performance buildings, decreased resource usage and greenhouse gas emissions, an increase in local and organic foods and the development of a sustainability awards program.

2006 Facilities Strategic Plan
The UCCS Facilities Strategic Plan Update is based upon the premise that sustainable design and development involves balancing economic, environmental and social considerations throughout the life of a campus and its buildings. Sustainable design principles in this plan include pedestrian scaled development, mixed use planning, dedication of abundant open and recreational space, and energy efficient building orientation. The Facilities Strategic Plan Update builds upon the 2000 plan, with a dedicated look at the North Nevada property and includes concepts for an arena, research complex, and space for U.S. Olympic National Governing body organizations.

Sustainability Goals for UCCS - Final Report 2005
In 2005, as part of the Inventing the Future strategic planning initiative, Chancellor Shockley-Zalabak, convened the UCCS Sustainability Task Force. This task force produced the UCCS Sustainability Goals Final Report which communicated an overall sustainability vision for UCCS and identified goals in the areas of operations, curriculum, and leadership.
